7/8" Double Victory button distributed by the Pittsburgh Courier. The Pittsburgh Courier was an African American owned newspaper that created the Double Victory Campaign in 1942, calling for democracy at home and abroad. Over 1 million African Americans served in WWII, their service was for a country that still did not grant them full rights as citizens, this hypocrisy was highlighted by the Double Victory campaign. African Americans and the Courier pointed out their military service and demanded full rights, and an end to segregation. Their goals were to end fascism abroad and racism at home.
Condition: Overall, this scarce pinback is in excellent condition. On the reverse, there is a singular slight celluloid separation at 1:00 (11:00 on the obverse). This is mentioned for strict accuracy, it does not detract from the presentation of the button. This piece is out of my personal collection, I was able to upgrade this piece after 5 years. "Whitehead & Hoag" backpaper.
